About Rear Admiral Baines
Rear Admiral Craig Baines began his career in the navy as a Maritime Surface Officer in 1987. His education includes a Bachelor of Arts from University of Manitoba, a Master of Defense Studies, and a Master of Public Administration.
At sea Rear Admiral Baines navigated HMCS Chignecto, Annapolis, and Provider, served in HMCS Regina and Winnipeg as the Operations Officer, and as the Executive Officer in HMCS Calgary. He commanded HMCS Winnipeg during counter-piracy operations off the Horn of Africa where he was awarded the Meritorious Service Cross.
He has served abroad in Norfolk, Virginia with the US Navy's Second Fleet, in Ottawa as Special Advisor to the Chief of Defence Staff, and as Base Commander of CFB Esquimalt. In July 2014 Rear Admiral Baines served as Fleet Commander of Canadian Fleet Atlantic until he took Command of Maritime Forces Atlantic and Joint Task Force Atlantic in September 2017.
