About John Schmidt
John has over 40 years of experience working in the Canadian marine industry, in executive positions with both the private and government sectors. He began his career as a Field Service Engineer with Westinghouse, installing and servicing propulsion systems on Canadian Coast Guard icebreakers. He moved into the Government sector where he worked in many departments over 27 years, first as a Life Cycle Materiel Manager with the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), Marine Surveyor with Transport Canada, PWGSC Director of Marine Procurement on the FELEX Program, and Project Director of the successful at DFO/CCG Hero Class Ship Construction Project.
John moved back to the private sector with Fleetway as their Director of Contracts and then to Halifax Shipyard where he was Director of Government Initiatives and Client Relations. Most recently John moved to Chantier Davie Canada Inc. as VP Commercial. Presently, John is serving as an Senior Vice President of Federal Fleet Services, Chantier Davie’s sister company.
His main achievements have been establishing an Ottawa presence for Davie and successfully leading the Business Development activities on Project Resolve (MV Asterix) and Project Resolute (3 Viking Icebreakers).
