Ed Zebedee is the Director of Protection Services, a division of Community and Government Services with the Government of Nunavut.
In 1988 Ed took a job with the NWT Department of Justice as an electrical inspector. He became first the Chief Electrical Inspector for Nunavut at the creation of Nunavut in 1999 and then later added the title of Manager of Safety.
In 2006 he became the Director of Protection Services, a division that was created 16 months prior to his appointment. At that time the division covered all the regulatory personnel such as electrical and elevator inspectors along with the Office of the Fire Marshal and Nunavut Emergency Management.
A restructuring in 2016 created a new division that is now only Emergency Management and Search and Rescue.
In his role as Director he is a sitting member of the Arctic Security Working Group, the Canadain Council of Emergency Management Officials, the Senior Officials Responsible for Emergency Management, the Ground Search and Rescue Council of Canada, the Search and Rescue Volunteers Association of Canada, the Co-chair of the Northern Roundtable on Search and Rescue, the Pelmorex Alerting Governance Council for Public Alerting and the Arctic Council Emergency Preparedness, Prevention and Response working group.
A highlight of his career was in 2010 he attended the International conference on Urban Search and Rescue in Hong Kong and later toured the area devastated by the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan, China
